In a perfect world, covariances would not exist. In a slightly less perfect but still wonderful world, they would be tiny ellipses. But in our world, it's pancakes, or bananas. So we have developed new recipes to be able to cook them as well as possible, especially when we add the mystery ingredient: manoeuvres. Do not hesitate to join us for this tasty seminar which will combine theory and practice, new methods and feedback !

You will also discover our analysis and operational software GUEPARD. Fear not, it is now perfectly trained !

14:00 - General introduction and definition of concepts

Morgane JOUISSE (GMV for DOA/SME/SE)

Introduction of the problematic of risk collision avoidance for maneuvering satellites, in particular during launch, station-keeping or reentry phases.

Presentation of the tool Guepard and the implementation of the Gates method, used to model the uncertainties induced by maneuvers and determine their impact on the overall uncertainties of the studied object.

15:00 - System and operational coordination

Etienne MONTAGNON (DV/MS2)

Presentation of the coordination needed at system level and the new operational interfaces that come with these new method and tool.

Presentation of multiple studies of the evolution of satellites uncertainties during their launch and early-orbit phase. Demonstration of the large impact of initial operational constraints on the outcome of each study.

16:00 - Example of Electrical Orbit Raising and Electrical Station Keeping in the context of an electrical constellation

Jules DAVID (KINEIS)

Kineis is a constellation of 25 satellites planned to launch in 2023-2024 to extend the ARGOS fleet for IoT telecommunication. This presentation will introduce the specifics of deployment and station keeping of a constellation in the context of electrical propulsion, as well as the challenges they come with regarding sequence of operations, coordination and of course, maneuvers uncertainties.

16:45 - Example of the end of life of formation flying

Etienne MONTAGNON (DV/MS2)

Presentation of the studies carried out in the frame of ELISA mission, especially on the decommissioning of the four satellites flying in formation.

In case of extended mission like ELISA, some propulsion contingencies can constrain maneuvers.

This presentation will show how the use of GUEPARD was then needed for some particular maneuvers.

Presentation of multiple studies of the evolution of satellites uncertainties for different cases of reentry, such as satellite passivation with unknown fuel composition, and high-eccentricity reentry.
